Art Program Stamp by Kikirini Art Program Stamp by Kikirini
I had the urge to make it. >_> This is a big pet peeve of mine.

A lot of times I will be surfing the net and come across art critique threads. In a number of these threads, the person will try to explain the quality of their art off by saying, "oh, I have (insert free, not so great art program here), so that's why it sucks," or in response to a bad critique, blame the program for the art's faults.

This irks me greatly. It seems as though a lot of people expect to make amazing art simply by doing it through Photoshop, which obviously isn't true (if it were, then all PS users would be art gods). Not to mention, assuming that is an insult to people who make amazing art without the use of expensive programs. There are more than enough people (even here, on DA) who can making amazing works in GIMP, Paint Tool SAI, OpenCanvas, and even Microsoft Paint. Yes, even Paint.

So please, stop blaming the quality of art on your program. It's not an excuse. =/

Feel free to use this stamp, just fav or comment please. :3

BIG SHINY EDIT:

Don't believe me when I say amazing shit can be made in MS Paint? Watch this.

I actually have friends who make amazing art with MS Paint. The fact that people use a program as an excuse for their shit art aggravates me. >_>

Yea this is common for MS Paint.
I myself can make decent shit (if I don't purposely make eyes bleed) on that program. And it's an older version.

I'm going to repeat what I said to another person with a similar stamp...

I'm sorry but in my experiences, it is much easier for some people to do their work if they have certain tools.
The tools do not MAKE the artist, but some things make it easier.
I myself am a terrible excuse for even a wannabe artist, but personally...I have never been able to do things with a mouse, and Photoshop is a much better tool than say Paint or something. The people who CAN use the mouse and/or Paint and make amazing things are GODLY in my opinion, and I worship them. That is TRUE talent. I myself cannot do these things...so, I guess based on your stamp/opinion...I and others like me are extra-shitty "artists"..

just the "It's you, not the program" would make a good stamp in of itself.

I'm not trying to oppose anything here, I think some people make the most amazing art on programs that aren't amazing. This is just something I'd like to say; I used SketchBook, for a while and I couldn't really make art that I was pleased with. So I switched over to SAI and suddenly I was making art that I enjoyed. Programs sometimes hold people back, like if a person in real life had to use a large paintbrush for a tiny detail.

This stamp isn't aimed at Paint alone. Hell, what inspired it was someone complaining that gimp was holding them back.

Ms paint does lack in some things that other programs have like getting things layered, etc. but there are some really awesome pictures on the internet that were done with ms paint.

Never underestimate.

ms paint definitely holds some people back, not gonna lie
more art programs, proper ones
are meant for making good art
there are more tools to work with, and if you have the skill, it's a lot easier to use things like SAI or photoshop than MS paint
that's not to say great art can't be made with paint, but if you don't have the skill to do it with JUST binary brushes with no pressure, then you're not going to have a good time

This stamp isn't focused on MS Paint. It's focused at artists who blame free or otherwise programs for their artistic shortcomings.

What inspired it was a girl who received some negative feedback on her work (I think what was said was that it was "not very detailed"). This girl retorted with, "Well, I'm using GIMP, that's why my art doesn't look good."
Now, GIMP is a free program, but it's a good one. It works with pressure-sensitive tablets and is used by a LOT of great artists. There is literally no way in which that program could be ruining her art.

More expensive programs don't make better art, and I'm tired of artists screwing themselves out of hard-earned money simply because they think it'll automatically make them better.

If you want I can show you how to use gimp. The thing about gimp is that you kinda have to experiment with it until you figure out how to do stuff.

Yep.

The fact that this person just drew it, like that, from scratch, and it ended up like a photograph, and they knew the exact procedure to get it to that insane level of quality... it's almost inhuman. An extraordinarily rare gift, I say. Maybe just 1 in 100,000,000 people can do that sort of thing. Maybe even less.

i have mixed feelings about this i have brain damage on my left side so i have tremors when i draw and it often takes days to draw even one person

but i do agree that people should make effort on thier and not complain about the program

True story I used to draw on sumopaint but didnt turn out well because im using a mouse and I'm a lefty. Ive been scrolling through comments on other peep's works and saying their art is crap because
of MS paint. They really need to get atablet or something so they can draw digital pictures the same way you draw on paper. Like I do I draw on paper, snapshot itthen trace and colour it.

I love ms paint.

No one will ever be able to seperate us.

I will download the old mspaint versions whenever I am on a new computer. No matter whose computer it is. It's the best program ever.
You will thank me later.

And now everyone who still hates ms paint:  Go and download GIMP because it's fücking FREE and more than good anough for non-professional artists. ._. (like, seriously. Photo and Shop are two things you won't need at all when you just want to draw)Heck, even muro has the most important basics, except for pen sensitivity. And if you don't have a drawing tablet, then even better. (Oh gosh, I can already see the next "I'm sorry that my art is bad but I draw with a mouse" posts....)
Or grab a friggin' pencil and some sheets of paper, yes these things do still exist.
no software, no medium should ever hinder you from creating.
the end.

This is so true! For a long time I only had MS paint as my program for digital artwork, I made the best of it. Though it was hard to do backgrounds, I still was able to get a decent style developed from it. A lot of my most popular works are made on MS paint.
To me a skilled artist can create no matter the materials or programs they have, they're style and work will still shine through no matter what they use. That's why saying you don't have a tablet is irrelevant to say it'll improve your skill. I know from experience that a tablet won't improve your skill magically. Sure with practice you can. But you can't just pick it up and make masterpieces as soon as you get it. I don't even use my tablet anymore because it hindered a lot on my artwork.

I've seen some great stuff drawin in MsPaint so that's a poor excuse to use. I don't really use paint too much anymore, now that I have Photoshop Elements 8 but paint's not that bad of a program.
